Blade Runner Needs an Oscar

February 22, 2009

In case you didn’t know I am a huge fan of PKD and even though the movie Blade Runner which is loosely based on his book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep isn’t true to the book it is really a stark and beautiful portrayal of the future that was way ahead of it’s time. I think that when that movie came out in 1982 it was so over people’s heads they didn’t know what do to and so they dismissed it like they have done with great works of literature or short stories. It has taken this many years for the movie to come into favor and be appreciated for it’s true beauty and mastery. I think that because people have realized the genius that Ridley Scott put into this film that at this weekend’s Oscars they should give the movie a Best Picture Oscar emeritus. This is the only way to recognize a great and historic piece of cinema.
