Holytaco.com has a pretty funny article about what you read says about you as a person and while I don’t agree with all of them I have posted by favorite pics below. Here is the full article (http://www.holytaco.com/what-book-youre-reading-really-says-about-you). It’s the total reversal of “don’t judge a book by it’s cover” because in this case, the contents are the cover.

I think that Man in the Mirror was one of Michael’s most moving and poetic songs. I have posted the video for all those that are mourning the loss of such a cultural icon. Michael, your music, your lyrics and your flair for life will be missed sorely.

A Book Quote Mug

June 24, 2009

I couldn’t agree more with the quote on this cute little mug that I found. It says:

A room without books is like a body without a soul

This is so true because books are the character of a room, they show accomplishment and struggle. The same characteristics that make a soul. Here is the mug.

You’ve got to hand it to the French, they really know how to take performance art and puppetry to the next level. I really love the idea of turning the streets of any city from their utilitarian purpose to something that creates art and makes people think. Most people would never step foot in a gallery or bookstore, but by injecting art into the streets you force people to think and expand their horizons. Other than being a sheer spectacle, this is what something like the performance art below does. Pretty powerful statement.

Happy Bloomsday

June 18, 2009

I know I am a day late, but Happy Bloomsday! This of course is the day that most of the action happens in James Joyce’s classic novel “Ulysses” to the protagonist Leopold Bloom. I thought I would take this moment to say that I appreciate all that Joyce has done to literature and bring in to an absolute art form but I still don’t get that book and I really don’t get any of his other books either. I wish I did, but I just don’t have the time or the patience to handle something like that. Thanks Joyce you were amazing!

Be careful of the vulgar language, but this is one of the most beautiful poems that I have heard from slam poetry. Well done.

Meditation on Mortality

June 11, 2009

A friend told me today about how he watched a man jump from a 10 story building to his death late one night. He jumped and it was very quite, like all of creation had stopped to watch this man fall and then suddenly a car was sunken in and there was glass everywhere. He was shocked and saddened by it.

It got me thinking about death though because I am not sure I want to die. I always enjoy experiencing new things but I can’t help but think that death is not something new, it is instead nothing. It is the complete absence of existence and therefore it is the absence of your feeling for life. It scares me beyond belief to think that soon I will spend eternity being nothing in nothingness. I don’t want that at all, I want to survive and feel forever not trapped in a void that I don’t even know exists. It is a painful thought to say the least and as I write it now I begin to cry and get cold chills. Death is not something I will ever be ready for.

Honestly, I can’t think of an issue that is more important right now than the civil rights for all people. I know that I don’t get very political on this blog but I think the rights of gay people every where are being bashed in this country that claims to be the most democratic nation in the world. That is why we must do everything we can to make sure that gay marriage is allowed so that everyone in the world can share in equal rights. Get this shirt below to show your support for those that are being hurt by the selfish fools of the world.

Rest Well Carradine

June 5, 2009

The star of one of my favorite shows, Kung Fu, actor David Carradine was found dead in Bangkok today. It is a sad day for the world as this man popularize kung fu and asian arts for the United States. You will be missed Grasshopper, rest well.

I am really getting sick of this pop fiction that kids are reading these days. From Twilight to Harry Potter our children are getting their brains infected with trash fiction that just doesn’t teach them anything about becoming a better or moral person in the world. Reading is supposed to teach first and entertain second. It seems we have started to lose those principles and are getting into a dangerous gray area with books that I don’t like one bit.
