Great Sports Poetry

This is awesome.

One thing I love about taking journalism courses in college was learning how to read the news and understanding the Inverted Pyramid. See, in most news articles the most important details are in the first paragraph, the second most important details are in the second paragraph and so on until you get to the end of the article and the information that is only mildly relevant to what you were originally is there. This is important because you can actually learn much of what is going on in the world with a paper and not read much more than the first couple of paragraphs. Pretty neat huh?

So I was going to review the upcoming tell-all novel of Sarah Palin entitled Going Rouge, but I thought it would be better to review a small excerpt of literature that i think is on a higher level than Palin’s new book. See below for the excerpt and then we will discuss.

Notice the repetitive use of the noun to really center the piece on Dick and not the dog that is obviously a character in the novel. Well that’s all I’ve got… I guess since there still some space in the blog post I will review Palin’s book as well. Here’s my review:

Are you fucking kidding me? You can read/write? My guess is this book amounts to mind pollution on the level of getting black out drunk or a seizure. I’d rather stab my brain with a fork than read your book.

I think that everyone needs a thinking cap and when that thinking is writing then you need a writing thinking cap. I love the simple design of this hat and I can see it as something that a writer would wear ironically to show off their style. I think this is the perfect gag gift to get for a writer that doesn’t take themselves too seriously. Just a simple design that everyone can have a good laugh about during the Christmas festivities.

Laughter is Pain

November 8, 2009

Here is an interesting thought that Heinlein lays out in his novel “Stranger in a Strange Land,” laughter is pain. It’s an interesting thought that we laugh because we are in pain with the world or because others are in pain. I tend to agree with that because things that are funny to us is when we suffer or someone else suffers which is really pain. Think back to see if you can think of a time that you laughed at something that wasn’t pain or suffering and you will not be able to find a time like that.

Creative Homework

For the kid that did this I have to give him/her points for creativity and total originality. This something I wouldn’t be able to do in a million years.

James Ellroy’s New Novel

November 2, 2009

I haven’t had the pleasure of reading any of James Ellroy’s noir novels but I hear very good things. What I hear about this new one is that it is one of the darkest of the dark. For a man that is known for his dark novels I wonder how dark a new height of darkness could be…
